Instructions

8 steps
1

Gather your required ingredients.

Step 1
2

Add the red lentils, water, and salt to a high powdered blender and blend on high until the mix is completely smooth.

Step 2
3

Preheat your 12-inch (30 cm) cast iron pan with a lid over coals and add in a small piece of parchment paper to cover the base of the pan—this will allow the pizza to be lifted out of the pan more easily. Ensure that the pan is well heated before adding in the lentil base. *See notes for cooking the pizza in the oven.

4

Pour half the lentil mix into the base of the pan and spread around to create a thin base that is roughly ¼-inch thick.

Step 4
5

Cover the pan with the lid and bake for 20 minutes until the base is fully cooked.

6

Pour on the sauce and spread to cover the pizza base. Add the sliced tomato, sliced red onions, and cheese.

Step 6
7

Cover and bake for another 10 – 15 minutes until the cheese in melted.

Step 7
8

Carefully slide the pizza out of the pan, slice, and sprinkle with fresh basil and black pepper.

Step 8

Recipe Notes

If you want this to be a little easier to blend, simply soak the lentils overnight and drain the water when you’re ready to make the base.

*If you want to cook this in the oven rather than over the fire, follow these instructions:

- Preheat the oven to 200C and place the cast iron pan into the oven to heat up for 10 minutes.

- Follow the rest of the regular instructions.
